Stressed Out Nation: Over 40 Percent Of Americans Are Stressed

(CBS Radio) — America, one nation under stress? If you’ve recently felt stressed during the day, you’re not alone. In fact, experiencing stress is a common complaint among Americans across the nation.

However, people residing in certain states were more likely to experience stress than people who lived in other states, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index.

The 2012 study found that of the 350,000 people interviewed across the United States, 40.6 percent admitted that they felt stressed out “yesterday.”

5. 38.6 percent of people who reside in Wyoming were likely to experience stress on any given day.

4. 38.1 percent of residents of Iowa were likely to feel stressed out at some point during the day.

3. 37.9 percent of Mississippi residents reported feeling stressed out.

2. 37.6 percent of residents in Louisiana said they experienced stress “yesterday.”

1. 32.1 percent of residents in Hawaii reported feeling stressed out. Hawaii has remained the least stressed out state for five consecutive years.

5. 43.3 percent of residents in Massachusetts reported that they felt stressed out on any given day.

4. 44.6 percent of Utah residents experience stress during the day.

3. 44.8 percent of people who reside in Kentucky reported that they felt stressed out.

2. 46.3 percent of people who live in Rhode Island said that they felt stressed out “yesterday.”

1. 47.1 percent of residents in West Virginia suffer from stress on any given day, making the state the most stressed out in the nation.
